A new edition of the Soccer Match for Peace –played for the first time on September 1st, 2014– will take place at Rome’s Olympic Stadium, Italy on October 12, 2016. Once more, soccer stars and worldwide soccer legends will be part of this new call for peace. Within the framework of the Holy Year of Mercy, the Italian organizations CSI, UNITALSI (Society for the Transport of Sick People to Lourdes and International Sanctuaries) and AMLIB (Non-for-profit organization for Love and Freedom) have joined forces with the International Organization of Pontifical Right SCHOLAS to organize the match for charity “United for Peace”.
Certainly, getting together and integrating in this sport event different institutions, students, schools and players from different countries and religions will result in a significant contribution to promote the culture of getting together to foster Peace, especially nowadays.
In the Opening Ceremony of “United for Peace”, His Holiness Pope Francis will bless and deliver to the players the Olive Tree of Peace that will later be planted in the Stadium symbolizing Peace and Encounter. His Holiness believes that both in soccer as well as in life, what really matters is to work as a team to help the needy.
